President-elect Donald Trump has frantically turned to the Supreme Court in a last-ditch effort to overturn 34 felony convictions in New York state. Not even a conversation with Justice Samuel Alito that came under scrutiny could sway the court.
With a 5-4 decision, the court decided.
The application for suspension submitted to Judge Sotomayor and sent by him to the court is denied on the following grounds, among others:
First, alleged evidentiary violations in President-elect Trump's state-court trial can be resolved through the normal appellate process.
Second, the burden that the sentence would place on the president-elect's duties is relatively insignificant, given the trial court's stated intent to impose a sentence of “unconditional release” after a brief virtual hearing.
Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined three liberal justices in rejecting Trump's stay.
The Supreme Court majority didn't just reject Trump, they embarrassed him.
