Senior campaign officials for Harris said internal campaign data showed him leading by double digits among voters in battleground states who made up their minds in the past week. Focus groups, officials say, are damaging to Trump From the Madison Square Garden rally and comments from Puerto Rico.
The Harris campaign clearly sees the Madison Square Garden rally as a turning point among late undecided voters, giving them confidence in the final days. “It really broke through,” said a senior campaign official. “It helped heighten their feeling about this race.”
Campaign pundits predicted that late-deciding voters would likely defect to Harris, as the younger candidate with a more positive message represents a change from Donald Trump, but the extent of the movement is surprising. If the question is correct, Trump has damaged his campaign at MSG beyond repair.
The ugliness of that rally was a slap in the face to many voters to remind them who Trump is and what he promises the country.
