Ever since he was greeted with chants of “don't quit,” Detroit has loomed large for Joe Biden.
Don't stop chanting.

The Detroit crowd was not one to be reassured about Joe Biden. The crowd was there to reassure the Democratic Party about Joe Biden.
Biden's speech was perhaps his strongest of the entire campaign, but the crowd played just as big a role. This was a crowd, not of restless white elite Democrats, but of the kind of voters who are the heart, soul, and backbone of the Democratic Party.
People weren't there to cheer Joe Biden up or give him love.
The message was being sent that if the Democrats tried to take away their candidate, the candidate they voted for would have hell to pay.
These people voted for Joe Biden. They still believe in Joe Biden, and no one is going to force Joe Biden out of this race against his will.
The people of Detroit didn't come out to see Joe Biden because they needed to be convinced of something.
When Joe Biden needed them most, thousands of Detroiters got behind him.
There's no message there for you to give up was a high kick in the pants to irritated mostly white Democrats.
