Jack Smith is making a new bid to tempt Trump

Special prosecutor Jack Smith tried again to force Trump to stop endangering the lives of law enforcement officers.

The special prosecutor wrote in a new petition in the case of confidential documents.

The government is moving to amend defendant Donald J. The conditions of Trump's release to clarify that he cannot make statements that pose a substantial, immediate and foreseeable risk to law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case.

The government's request is necessary because of several deliberately false and inflammatory statements made by Trump recently that misrepresent the circumstances under which the FBI planned and executed the Mar-a-Lago raid. Those statements create a grossly misleading impression of the intentions and conduct of federal law enforcement agencies, falsely implying that they were complicit in the plotting of his assassination and putting those agents, some of whom will be witnesses at trial, at risk. about threats, violence and harassment.

The court has an “independent obligation to protect the integrity of these judicial proceedings”.

A condition of release prohibiting the defendant from making statements that pose a substantial, immediate, and foreseeable threat to law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case is warranted and necessary. Such a prohibition would also minimize further prejudice caused by the defendant's sending false and inflammatory messages about the facts of this case to potential jurors who may be called by the court for jury service in this matter.

Prosecutors argued that without medication on the terms of Trump's release, the former president could not have manipulated witnesses and jurors. Judge Eileen Cannon rejected Smith's first attempt at a gag order, so the Special Counsel is trying again.

It seems likely that Cannon's constant defense of Trump from the bench will be appealed at some point. Special Counsel Smith appears to be taking all reasonable steps to protect witnesses and jurors.

If Trump's speech is not limited, we all know what he will do. Trump has been relentless in his efforts to undermine his affairs.

Judge Eileen Cannon lets him get away with it, but Jack Smith isn't stopping his efforts to protect witnesses, jurors and law enforcement.
