Rachel Maddow suggested on MSNBC that Republicans still have time to ditch Donald Trump and elect another candidate.

Maddow said:
He's been convicted of 34 felonies, and he's not just a former president, he's the Republican presidential nominee. I'll go back to the point I made earlier, which is that I think the Republican Party now has a decision to make as to whether it's OK to be convicted of 34 felonies and still retain that party's nomination for president. for the presidency.
He is the supposed candidate. He is not the official candidate of that party. They can pick someone else right now, and if felony convictions mean what they've always meant for everyone else in US history who has faced the criminal justice system while also running for political office, the Republican Party will take it seriously and may review the matter.

The Republican Party should talk to him about dumping Donald Trump, but they won't. The Republican Party did not drop Trump after the Access Hollywood tape. The GOP didn't let Trump go after he tried to bring down the government. The GOP didn't touch Trump after he was indicted and they are not going to get rid of Trump with 34 felonies.
Maddow viewed the Republican Party through the prism of rational thought. The GOP is an irrational cult-like group driven by emotion and loyalty to Trump.
Republicans may choose a new candidate, but chances are they won't even have a debate.
