Mitch McConnell's Arizona Abortion Ban Dodge Signals GOP Panic

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is a reliable GOP musician, and his refusal to talk about Arizona's abortion ban signals GOP panic.

McConnell said: “I haven't looked into it yet, but I'm sure you have too, that this issue will continue to come up during the campaign.”

Mitch McConnell never minces words when he thinks the Republican Party can benefit from an issue. McConnell did more than dodge the question about Arizona's abortion ban. The Senate Minority Leader gave the most neutral answer imaginable.

How toxic is abortion for Republicans?

So toxic that Mitch McConnell was willing to say that voters will decide the abortion issue in November. McConnell has another issue with abortion that hits much closer to home. Senate Republicans are divided on this issue. There are those like Lindsey Graham who advocate a virtual total ban on abortion. Others want a ban with exceptions, and the two Senate Republican women, Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, favor the option.

Not only is the Republican Party tearing itself apart over abortion, but the Senate Republican caucus may be splitting on the issue.

McConnell's response indicated that panic had set in as Republicans lacked answers on abortion.
