House Republicans are falling apart, and now Mike Johnson may be toast

The first small push to pass a bill to keep the government open has broken House Republicans and could save Speaker Mike Johnson his job.

Elon Musk is on a crusade to stop the House defunding the government because he wants no legislation passed until Donald Trump is in office. Following Musk's orders would result in a government shutdown for more than a month. Chaos and economic damage would result.

Fox News' Chad Pergram reported that Musk's threat of a primary for any House Republican who votes for CR has some Republicans considering a no vote.

Pergram also reported that House Republicans expect a vote within the next hour, but that the bill is bleeding.

Chaos could be riding on Speaker Mike Johnson's job.

Recall that Republicans will open the next Congress with a two-seat majority, so a commitment by one Republican not to vote for Johnson is a huge deal. Johnson can at best afford to lose as many seats as Trump House Cabinet nominees take their seats and then resign when Trump takes office.

At worst, several Republicans decide to fire Johnson, and he's gone as soon as Congress convenes.

The House will be thrown into even deeper chaos, and Trump's agenda will be put on ice.

House Republicans can't get it together, and it could end up costing Mike Johnson his job.
