Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) explained the important role women play in combat and how Trump's Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett will weaken the US.
Duckworth, a combat veteran who lost both of his legs in combat, told CNN:
He is wrong because women have made us more efficient. In fact, our military could not go to war without the 223,000 women in uniform.
We would have an ineffective army. A military that was not capable of being deployed. If we took out all the women and said you can't fight for women who are in roles like the infantry or the Navy SEALs, those women have met the same criteria as men to be appointed to those positions.
So again, this shows that Mr. Hegseth is unqualified for office because he doesn't understand. Apparently, even after serving, women are actually vital. Effective for the army. And when we have the recruiting challenges that we have right now, if we pull all those women out and say you can't go into combat, we'd be saying you're facing a serious manpower crisis in the military.

Duckworth is right. The military is already facing a manning crisis and Hegsett's backward and sexist ideas will only make it worse. is
In the bigger picture, Hegseth's views are an example of how Trump's dream is to take the country back to a time when white men dominated the nation. From deporting immigrants to destroying women's rights, the United States will have to fight antiquated ideas of racism and sexism that many hoped to be buried in the past.
Hegseth, the alleged sex offender, is exactly the wrong man to lead the army.
