Gretchen Whitmer has called Donald Trump “crazy,” saying women won't have to think about abortion if he wins.
Watch Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer on CNN's State Of The Union:
Gretchen Whitmer claims of Trump that women will be happy about abortion when he wins, “This guy just doesn't understand what the average woman goes through in her life in this country and how can he, he hasn't lived a normal life.” just mad. pic.twitter.com/ekOVaoWvKn

Jake TapperDonald Trump was meeting with supporters in North Carolina on Saturday afternoon. I want you to hear what happens if he wins in a few weeks.
Trump in NC tape: Women will be happy, healthy, confident and free. You will never think about abortion again.
Hot: He says that's because it will go back to the states where it belongs. Uh, what's your reaction?
Governor Gretchen Whitmer. That's just ridiculous. I think, you know, this guy just doesn't understand what the average woman in this country faces in her life. And how could she, unlike Kamala Harris, she didn't live a normal life who has worked part-time, who knows how important it is for women to have health care and access to the medical care they need. And so he's just mad.
This particular Trump rant has become his new way of dealing with the unpopularity of his authorization to overturn Roe v Wade. Whitmer is right, there are many problems with his claims, not least of which is that he clearly doesn't understand anything about “abortion” or women.
Unfortunately, there is no place on earth where women do not have to think about abortion. It's like people won't have to worry about eating.
It's especially troubling that Trump started this when Pro-Publica revealed that Trump's touted abortion bans were directly responsible for the preventable death of a young mother in Georgia, Amber Nicole Thurman.
“At least two women in Georgia have died after they were denied access to legal abortions and timely medical care in their state,” ProPublica has found. This is one of their stories.”
Additionally, Georgia mother of three Candy Miller died after being unknowingly pregnant because “exceptions” to Georgia's abortion ban do not cover chronic conditions “even those known to be life-threatening during pregnancy.” Indeed, doctors warned Miller that her “health was so fragile that the doctors warned that having another child could kill her.”
But not so fragile as to qualify for a statutory exemption.
Trump says everyone wanted abortion back in the states. That's completely untrue, but it also means that women in red states where abortion is illegal are not only being denied abortions, but also health care. Care Post-Roe Study found increased risk of morbidity and death; “A wide range of harms occur in states that prohibit abortion in pregnancy, including increased morbidity and complications that can lead to serious disability and increased risk of death. Long-term effects can include loss of fertility, chronic pelvic pain from infection or surgery, or heart attack and stroke from uncontrolled hypertension, as well as mental health effects, the report says. This has impacted both patients and providers and has deepened disparities in the health care system for people of color.”
So Trump says women in red states will be “happy, healthy, confident and free” because they are getting sick, losing their fertility and risking death.
Naturally, the Republican presidential candidate and convicted felon isn't saying how he'll create this magical unicorn world, but we can imagine he'll bring his “concept of plans” for his health care policy after he rips Obamacare away from Americans. : This is the part where we note that Obamacare protects pregnant women from being denied coverage because the pregnancy is considered a “pre-existing condition.”
… And also the part where we mention that Obamacare mandated that most private health insurers must cover women's preventive health care (women's health exams, mammograms, cervical cancer screening, prenatal care, etc.). So how are women going to be “healthy” under a Trump presidency when they have to pay for all basic screenings again, meaning many women won't get them?
Trump basically says that women should just trust him. But he is a convicted rapist, a man convicted by a jury of his peers of sexually assaulting a woman in a department store dressing room. This same man's first wife accused him of brutal rape in her book, an allegation she backed off only when he ran for president, and suddenly America cared about rape for a minute. Also, by the way, Trump was just prosecuted for having his affair with a porn star interfere with the election.
Rapists seek to control women. Trump made it possible to overturn Roe, which means many women can't get an abortion even if they're raped (many states don't have exemptions for rape or incest, and those that do often aren't). in the case: because they require the woman or girl to prove that she was raped or raped). Furthermore, many states give rapists visitation rights to their children, so there is a lifelong bond with the rapist; in other words, abortion bans give rapists an incentive to rape.
Notice that when anti-abortion people talk about abortion, they are not working to pass laws to make it easier to prosecute rape and incest (something that VP Kamala Harris actually focused on as a prosecutor) or to hold men accountable for the costs and for work. raise a child? This is the great gift that anti-abortion talk is anti-women's freedom talk.
Abortion care is health care. Health care is necessary. It saves a life.
