The warnings we've heard from historians, dictatorship experts, and the Biden-Harris campaign in years past may have been mere afterthoughts, but today we face real danger in the form of a perfect storm:
1. The right candidate who has no shame, is power hungry, abusive and has a spiritual and charismatic influence on his loyal cult following.
2. Meets the right's decades-long effort to return to a form of imperialism through the imperial presidency
3. Meets the billionaire corporate media from local news to the biggest legacy newspapers that we all read in awe, one of which, if this fictional genre was not much, created a team. By a man trained by Britain's Murdoch, who was accused of covering up for the Conservative Tories and covering up wrongdoing in the newsroom. Instead of defending American values of an independent free press, some of the country's major corporate media institutions are going in the opposite direction.
Independent news sites like PoliticusUSA have been under siege for the past 7 years, with site after site closing their doors. Even those with dark money and hedge fund money are struggling, and we accept neither. We started this site with a “People's” perspective to inform voters about issues, focusing on the impact of policy on working families, not Wall Street.
In the days of social media, we could easily reach voters, but today most of those channels have been taken over by corporate and big money outlets. Things are changing. We're lucky to still have a loyal audience, but with so many behind-the-scenes changes to Google search, Google ad payouts sometimes cut by up to 75% without warning, SEO and AI writing rewards, the end of the web under Trump : Neutrality and corporate media working with social media billionaires to dominate the “news” space is an enterprise that cannot sustain itself. We kept it with our money. It is our way of protecting this democracy and its institutions.

We are here with our slightly battered but brave flag and our faith in you, the voters. Instead, we ask that you take our efforts to continue offering free news (until the election) in exceptionally difficult circumstances as a sign of hope. Because there can be no change without hope.
Use this imperfect but wonderful experiment to fight and protect your anger peacefully. You are not alone, wherever you are and however low you feel about all of this. Remember, they want you to be demoralized. Don't let them win the easiest battle: your will.
