Georgia's former GOP lieutenant governor explains why he's voting for Biden

The former lieutenant governor of Georgia, Jeff Duncan, said that he does not agree with Biden on politics, but he is voting for the president because he is decent.

In an op-ed in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Duncan suggested Republicans vote for a GOP Congress and a Democratic president to provide checks and balances to government. Duncan also noted that the poll shows that Trump can win the election.

The former lieutenant governor made a serious moral argument about why Republicans should vote for Joe Biden.

The healing of the Republican Party cannot begin with Trump as president (and that's aside from the untold damage that may await our country). Time magazine's upcoming cover story clearly outlines “an imperial presidency that will transform America and its role in the world.”

Unlike Trump, I have belonged to the RPA all my life. This November, I am voting for a decent person with whom I disagree on a policy toward a criminal defendant with no moral compass.

Duncan was right. The Republican Party will never recover until it kicks Trump to the curb and turns from a cult of personality back to its conservative, pro-American roots.

Democrats may disagree with much of what Duncan says, but his vote for Biden shows there are more important issues than partisan politics. Defending American democracy requires many people who may disagree on policies to come together to save the country by electing a decent person who will defend the nation's values and political system.

After dealing with Trump, we can go back to arguing about the issues, but the big issue in the 2024 election is whether we will vote for decency or a potential convicted felon who dreams of being a dictator.
