Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA) crunched the numbers and found that Donald Trump has a steep hill to climb to win Pennsylvania.
Shapiro said on CNN's The Lead with Jake Tapper.
Importantly, I think it's also a remarkable thing that last night in Pennsylvania, when the votes were being collected, we're still telling a few here and there. But just looking at the broader numbers, about 100 and 60,000 registered Republicans went to the polls and voted for Nikki Haley. About 100,000 to 120,000 voted for Joe Biden on the Democratic side, as you alluded to earlier. That's a delta of 40,00-45,000 votes for Donald Trump.
Just say that in 2016 in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump won the commonwealth by only 44,000 votes. He has a lot of work to do to win over voters, especially in suburban communities outside of Harrisburg and Erie, Pittsburgh and, of course, Philadelphia. People who are incredibly angry that he has taken away their fundamental freedoms and he is taking credit for this failed Roe v.Wade. It will continue to be a problem on which he makes no inroads. So I think every candidate has some work to do. Donald Trump has a pretty steep hill to climb.

As I wrote in our newsletter, The Daily, Pennsylvania appears poised to reject Donald Trump. The state's primary results revealed the enormous problems Trump faces as a candidate. Republican enthusiasm for Trump's third run is lower than in his previous two campaigns. Haley won a significant number of Republican votes statewide, and Trump is overly dependent on rural Pennsylvania, where the population is shrinking, for his vote share.
Whatever problems Biden has in Pennsylvania, they are not on the same scale as Trump's. As Governor Shapiro said, Trump has a much bigger hill to climb to win Pennsylvania than Biden.
